Description of Mireog

Rí na Teamhrach – King of Tara is inspired by the legendary High King of Ireland, Cormac Mac Airt, son of Art the Lonely and grandson of Conn of the Hundred Battles.

Known in myth as Cormac Long Beard, he is said to have been a wise and just ruler of Tara, one of the most important royal sites in ancient Ireland.

According to Irish legend, Cormac was stolen as a baby by wolves and raised among them before being returned to his father’s court, where his wolf companions are said to have followed him.

In the tale Cormac’s Adventure in the Land of Promise, the sea god Manannán Mac Lir tricks Cormac into exchanging his family for a magical branch that bears golden apples, which play enchanting music. When the spell breaks, Cormac embarks on a journey to the Otherworld to recover what he has lost.

Medieval sources describe him as “wise, valiant, and mild”. He is also associated with the era of Fionn Mac Cumhaill and the Fianna.

Shona from Mireog has screen-printed this design in her studio in Co. Waterford using water-based inks onto soft 100% organic cotton Earth-Positive t-shirts.

These t-shirts are ethically made using renewable wind and solar energy, ensuring a low-impact and sustainable production process.
